A proposed library in Camden County won't use the Dewey Decimal System.Instead, expect the DIY approach at a facility where patrons might check out saws, sanders and other handy gadgets.Freeholders voted Thursday night to advance plans for a county tool library. If everything goes well, it will debut by June 1 at the county's Lakeland complex in Gloucester Township. Now, at first glance, a library for tools might seem like a confusing concept.Does it offer "The Taming of the Screw?" Would you find a drywall sander under friction? And how loud is the screaming in the children's room?

But Freeholder Michelle Gentek said the program will provide a valuable community service, especially for short people."Say you need an extension ladder," she observed. "You could just go to the tool library and pick one up."This gives people the opportunity to borrow a tool for a specific project."Gentek said she and Chris Waldron, Camden County's director of sustainability and shared services, were impressed by a similar venture in Philadelphia.
